St Giles School Fair

On Saturday 4th July 2009 representatives from Dancetime performed several line dances at St Giles C of E School in Ashtead as part of their Western themed school fair.

After the demonstration 4 classes were held where fair-goers tried their hands (and feet!) at line dancing. All proceeds from this tuition went to the school.

It was a hot and successful day with the school raising over £5,000
David, a new member of Dancetime (keen on cha cha cha) said "It was great to see so many dads and daughters having so much fun!"

Dancetime Awards

In addition to the IDTA medals which pupils may take Dancetime has its own set of awards. Pupils receive certificates when they master the various steps and techniques vital to a good dancer. Dancetime has also devised two sets of awards which extend pupils in freestyle and line dance. These technique awards require the demonstration of steps in isolation as well as in a routine and an explanation of each named step. On achievement of each level a medal and certificate is awarded.

Medals

Pupils who have shown good progress in their dancing are encouraged to enter IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) examinations. These awards consist of dancing up to four dances in front of an IDTA examiner in order to achieve a medal. Children as young as 3 may enter. Dancetime offers medals in each of the following dance styles; freestyle, street dance, line dance, ballroom and Latiin American. The examinations are not to be feared as they are taken in a very friendly atmosphere full of encouragement. No one has failed to date!
