Pony Club Line Dance

Pony Club

On 25th July 2011 Dancetime travelled to Littleton Manor Equestrian Centre to provide an evening’s Line Dancing for 11 -17 year olds on a Pony Club holiday.

The weather was dry and warm so just right for a bit of outdoor jigging!

Once the supper tables had been moved the dancing began! It was comforting to know that the portable ghetto blaster had sufficient volume for all 40 pupils to hear.

The 1 ½ hour session began with “5 6 7 8” to get everyone in a party mood.

This was quickly followed by several dances that could be learned quickly such as “struttin’ star”, “electric slide” and “hooked on country”.

Challenges were set with “slappin’ leather”, “Cajun skip” and “dizzy” so all abilities could be satisfied.

The evening ended with well known disco and party dances: “Macarena”, Saturday night”, “the birdie song” and “cotton eye Joe”.

After the day’s riding and evening’s dancing I think all participants slept well!

Annual Display

29th January saw many enthusiastic dancers from Dancetime perform in front of their friends and relations in our 8th Annual Display.

The venue was The Tylney Room at Leatherhead Leisure Centre. As usual the event was videoed by Surrey Video Services and many pupils now have a permenant record of their day.

Once again our youngest members stole the show! Last year we included our 3 year olds but this time children as young as 2 took to the floor. They were totally captivating and were clearly having a great time.

We welcomed back our adults, who last took part in 2005, thoroughly enjoying their Line Dance Medley. Their dedicated practice paid off and they all seemed to have a good time, with wide smiles on their faces. Hopefully, their initial concerns about performing were reduced and we will see them return next year.

An energetic cheer dance was performed by three teenagers, Kirsty, Esme and Ellie. This routine was learned over just three sessions as Kirsty was away at University.

Jessica and Carla choreographed their own routine to "club can't handle me" and performed it beautifully.

A street dance was included this year and the pupils involved showed that they can easily adapt to the many styles taught at Dancetime.

The audience was also entertained with the Jive, Salsa and other partner dances.

The steppers once again rose to their challenge line dance - They have only 40 minutes to learn the steps over 2 weeks. No easy feat especially when facing a new wall.

At the end of the display Audrey Sawyer presented the medals to the pupils who had taken part in our latest medal test. The awards ranged from Rosettes to I.D.T.A. Stars. We were very proud that our Steppers all achieved Honours in their Line Dance exams.

Can't wait for next year!
