Gatton Manor Valentine's Dinner and Dance

Gatton Manor Valentine’s Dance             15/02/13

Dancetime was once again invited to host the Gatton Manor Valentine’s Dinner and Dance. The event took place in the club house on Friday 15th February.

After their meal diners were invited to the dance floor to experience different styles of dance.

Basic steps were taught in the waltz, tango, cha cha cha, rumba, and rock ‘n’ roll. This was followed by practise whilst a selection of ballroom and Latin music was played.

Beryl ably assisted by Esme, then went on to teach some disco and line dance routines. There was much hilarity as moves were learned and turns made the wrong way!

Two new classes have been established in the Dancetime Studio at Ockley as a direct result of this evening:

Line dance on Mondays                7.30 – 8.30pm

Beginner’s ballroom and Latin American on Wednesdays            8.15 – 9.15pm

Annual Display

Tylney Room Display                     26/01/13

Once again in January Dancetime pupils took to the floor at the Tylney Room, Leatherhead Leisure Centre for their 10th Annual Display.

Ready to start

Pupils demonstrated a cross section of dances learned in class. Styles included were freestyle, street, line dance and Latin American.

Children as young as 2 years old joined in with some preparatory freestyle steps and fun dances. Not to be outdone, our very capable adults showcased many line dances including a well performed waltz.
Touch your toes
Lucy and Jade ably waltzed around our line dancers, mastering the many turns required, and pupils from our Springers class partnered each other for a complex mambo routine. Oliver confidently led Sophie in a shorter version – no mean achievement for one so young!

Very brave!

The audience were thrilled by our youngest soloist, Emma, as she danced freestyle to a Janet Jackson song. Jade stepped in last minute to join Katie in a pair’s routine which was superbly executed. Abigail and Heather, and Lucy and Geena choreographed their own pair’s routines and danced them beautifully. Kirsty’s freestyle solo included many contemporary moves this year and was performed with flair. Katie danced the Stepper’s Challenge line dance by herself and couldn’t be faulted.

Pairs routine

There was an element of surprise when a track from Leadbelly dated 1945 was played but this turned to laughter as the fun dance performed by all our pupils over the age of 8 years progressed.

Successful medallists

At the end of the display Audrey Sawyer presented pupils with the awards they earned at our medal test in November.

The wide grins from the audience throughout the display proved it is an event not to miss. Make sure you attend next year!

Medal Test Saturday 19th May 2012

On Saturday 19th May 21 pupils from Dancetime arrived at North Holmwood Village Hall to take part in our Medal Test.

The session started with the Paso Doble ably danced by three of our Springers.

This was followed by our Stardance candidates. The examiner, Mrs Lawler of the IDTA went on to examine freestyle, street and line dance entries.

Dance Party

Happy Birthday Emily!

Having turned 8 years old on 14th May Emily celebrated her birthday with a dance party run by Dancetime on  Sunday 20th May 2012.

The party was held at Emily’s house where the living room had been cleared to give enough jigging space! Emily and her guests danced for an hour to various rhythms, giggling most of the time.

There were fun dances, disco, line and even rock and roll to gyrate to. Towards the end of the session we heard a plaintive cry of “Can we rest now?”

By all accounts a good time was had by all.

When the dancing was over Emily went on to enjoy the rest of her party and tea.

Dinner and Dance

Dinner and Dance at Gatton Manor

On 11th February 2012 Gatton Manor Hotel, Ockley hosted a dinner dance in celebration of Valentine’s Day.

Dancetime was invited to provide the evening’s dancing. A challenge not to be missed! Beryl was assisted by Esme in demonstrating and teaching the dances.

Guests enjoyed a three course meal and then took to the dance floor for 90 minutes tuition in basic Ballroom and Latin American.

Afterwards, the newly acquired skills were put to practice to exciting Latin and ballroom music and the more experienced dancers had the opportunity to excel.

Later in the evening a few line dances were taught causing much hilarity.

The event concluded with a couple of popular disco tunes and of course the inevitable slow number!

As different styles of dance were taught everyone found a rhythm they enjoyed and ventured on to the dance floor.

There were many smiling faces, and the remarks made as people left confirmed that everyone had enjoyed themselves.

Esme commented that everyone was having such fun and that the evening was a resounding success.

Look out for the next one!

Pony Club Line Dance

Pony Club

On 25th July 2011 Dancetime travelled to Littleton Manor Equestrian Centre to provide an evening’s Line Dancing for 11 -17 year olds on a Pony Club holiday.

The weather was dry and warm so just right for a bit of outdoor jigging!

Once the supper tables had been moved the dancing began! It was comforting to know that the portable ghetto blaster had sufficient volume for all 40 pupils to hear.

The 1 ½ hour session began with “5 6 7 8” to get everyone in a party mood.

This was quickly followed by several dances that could be learned quickly such as “struttin’ star”, “electric slide” and “hooked on country”.

Challenges were set with “slappin’ leather”, “Cajun skip” and “dizzy” so all abilities could be satisfied.

The evening ended with well known disco and party dances: “Macarena”, Saturday night”, “the birdie song” and “cotton eye Joe”.

After the day’s riding and evening’s dancing I think all participants slept well!
